Permskaya State Regional Power Plant is an effective Russian federal power plant, large producer of energy in the Urals and one of the most powerful electrical stations in Europe . It is thus no exaggeration that it should be nicknamed the “energy heart” of Permskyii Kray. The plant is one of the primary suppliers of electrical energy to Ural and Volga districts. Eighty-five percent of the electricity produced is sold on the wholesale energy market and up to 15 percent on the free market. Heat energy is provided to Dobryanka . Thanks to careful and effective planning, the continual upgrade of plant equipment, new technologies, cost-effective maintenance, a high level of automation, and fire and ecological safety, Permskaya State Regional Power Plant is one of the leading plants in RAO UES-Russia. The plant is located on the left bank of the Kamskii Reservoir 70 km from Perm and 5 km northwest of Dobryanka . It is situated between the industrial center of Permskii Region (oil extraction and refining, petroleum engineering and mechanical engineering, as well as other forms of energy production) and the Verkhnekamskii industrial hub (petroleum and chemical engineering, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, forestry, milling, and mining).
Principal power equipment
The power plant's primary capacity is 2400 MW, comprising three steam-powered blocks of 800 MW each that were launched between 1986 and 1990. Permskaya State Regional Power Plant is classified as a “under construction,” because with a total design capacity of 4800 MW, three additional 800 MW have yet to be built. Capacity at the plant is to be expanded using PGU-800 steam cycle technology.
The power plant plays an important role in providing the Ural region with electricity and its expansion is necessary to accommodate the growth in production and consumption of electrical energy, as well as to make up for expected deficiencies brought on by ageing equipment.
The power plant was designed to run on Kuznetzkii coal, but has operated on natural gas since its launch.
Natural gas from Urengoyskii and Yamburgskii gas fields, supplied by branches from the main gas line, is used to fuel the blocks. Energy from the plant enters the United Ural Grid on 220 and 500 kW power lines.
Since its launch, Permskaya State Regional Power Plant has reconstructed and upgraded its primary and secondary equipment by attracting factories, leading scientific research facilities and maintenance firms, which has today helped to improve reliable and economical operation of the blocks.
In 2005 Permskaya State Regional Power Plant produced 12.9 bln kW•hr of electricity. Since its inception, the plant has produced 192.9 bln kW•hr (as of 31 December 2005).
