Iriklinskaya State Regional Power Plant
Iriklinskaya is one of the largest power plants in the southern Urals. The power plant is located in the eastern portion of Orenburg Region in the center of a highly developed economic district. Magnitogorsk is to the north, Orsko-Aktyubinskii Industrial District to the south, the large Sokolovsko-Sorbaiskoe iron ore quarry to the east, and Mednogorsk and Kuvandyk to the west. The nearest large city, Orsk , is 100 km away. Energetik, a town with about 9500 residents, relies on Iriklinskaya State Regional Power Plant for its livelihood.
One of the plant's units is a 30 MW hydroelectric power plant that is located 20 km away.
The main purpose of the Iriklinskaya State Regional Power Plant is the production of electrical power and its further sale on the wholesale market, as well as provision of heat energy to residents in Energetik.
Power is distributed along 110, 220 and 500 kW high-voltage power lines in two principal directions. The 500 kW lines lead to Zhitikara in Kazakhstan and Magnitogorsk and Gazovaya substation in Orenburg Region. The 110 and 220 kW lines distribute the power throughout Orenburg Region and Bashkortostan.
Brief history
In accordance with Resolution #379 of the Council of Soviet Ministers (10 April 1959) and Order #8 of the Orenburg Economic Council (6 April 1959), a commission incorporating workers from the Kievskii division of the Heat and Electricity Planning Institute was formed to test the feasibility of the construction and determine the location of a large state regional power plant in the eastern portion of Orenburg Region.
The left bank of the reservoir — 12 km away from a hydroelectric power station — was chosen as the most advantageous site for construction of the power plant based on the technical and economic indicators arising from the feasibility study for several locations. The site was ideal for a power plant: It was in the center of a highly developed economic district and had a large supply of water, as well as abundant supplies of other building materials, such as sand, stone and gravel. In addition, a railroad line that would prove necessary for transporting equipment was just 50 km away from the proposed site in nearby Novoorsk.
On 8 June 1962 the government approved plans for the construction of Iriklinskaya State Regional Power Plant and an adjacent town for workers. The cornerstone of the foundation for the first apartment buildings in Energetik was laid in March 1963.
The first 300 MW block was brought online on 7 November 1970. This day marked the first day of operation of Iriklinskaya State Regional Power Plant.
For the first time in the history of the Soviet Union , two powerful blocks were launched from scratch at the same power plant in a short time.
After four more blocks (Block #3 on 29 September 1971 and Block #4 on 30 June 1972) were blocks the power plant reached a total capacity of 1800 MW. In December 1978 Block #7 was launched. The final block, Block #8, was finished on 17 November 1979. The total generative capacity had finally reached the initial design capacity — 2400 MW. In 1985 the Government Commission issued an order to further expand Iriklinskaya State Regional Power Plant and Energetik. During the first stage of reforms, Iriklinskaya split from Orenburgenergo on 1 July 2005 and was registered as an independent company. This day, 1 July 2005, is thus the founding date of Iriklinskaya State Regional Power Plant.
