Company Environmental Indicators
Company environmental indicators are better than on the average in the industry. These indicators are achieved due to the favorable fuel balance structure and the application of modern 800 MW CCGT power units, which are characterized by the most efficient fuel consumption and low air pollutants emission. Although two power plants (GRES) consume coal, gas is the main fuel with the share of 92 % in 2007. The share of environmentally dangerous fuel in 2007 is the following: coal 7.3 % and fuel oil – 0.7 %.

Low specific fuel consumption per electricity, achieved at modern 800 MW CCGT power units of Permskaya and Nizhnevartovskaya GRES (306.3 g/kWh) defines high specific environment indicators.
Despite a considerable production growth in 2007 (by 4.7 %) pollutants emission in 2007 decreased from 96.123 thousand ton to 84.4 thousand ton (by 12.2 %). Specific pollutants emission keep on decreasing and are the following in 2007: nitrogen oxides - 2.62 kg/ton of fuel equivalent (decrease by 3 % compared with 2006), sulfur dioxide - 14.55 kg/ton of fuel equivalent (decreasing by 10 %), ash - 16.99 kg/ton of fuel equivalent. In 2006 emissions of the main pollutant (nitrogen oxide), which account for 43% of all pollutants, amounted to 2.9 kg/ton of fuel equivalent, which is already lower, than indicators planned for 2015 by RAO “UES of Russia” (3 kg/ton of fuel equivalent).

Maximum Allowed Levels of Air Pollutants Emission, in accordance with the permissions by power plant (GRES) (Russian version)
Impact on EnvironmentMost of the used water is cooling water, which is classified as “normative clear” and doesn’t require cleaning. In 2007 the emission of the water amounted to 4.216 mln cubic meters. The share of the sewage water, cleaned and non-filtered, amounted to less than 3.154 mln m3, including 1.585 mln m3 is disposed without filtration (ash-dump filtration); 2.285 mln m3 is disposed filtered: 2,285 mln m3 is filtered at biological installations and 1.196 mln m3 (16%) – at mechanical devices.

Wastes In 2007 production wastes amounted to 546.3 thousand ton, which is 5.3% less than in 2006, and 27% less than in 2004. The dynamics of waste depends on the share of the coal burned, which is the following during the last 3 years: 10.7% in 2004, 8.1% in 2005, 8.8% in 2006, 7.3 % in 2007. Most of the waste (99%) are coal ash wastes from Verkhnetagilskaya and Kashirskaya GRES.
